Description
Wideframe shaft seals for the crankshaft are available in two different designs:
- Round cut-out for Wideframe engines (material thickness of the sheet metal carrier 0.5mm)
- Square cut-out for large frame engines (material thickness of the sheet metal carrier 0.8mm)
The 0.5mm version suitable for Wideframe is only available in No-Name quality. The shaft seals fit and there are no problems with tensioned bearings.
PROBLEM WIDEFRAME MOTORS
The much higher quality BGM Pro and Corteco shaft seals are (for safety reasons) only available with 0.8mm thick sheet metal casing. If these are built into a wideframe engine, the crankshaft bearings will be distorted, which will lead to bearing damage.
SOLUTIONS WIDEFRAME MOTORS
a) Press the surrounding bead in the oil seal flat, reducing the height of the oil seal by approx. 0.3mm. The bearings then run freely.
b) The BGM Pro bearing set with special ball bearings. Here the bearing shoulders were turned to size to ensure a tension-free assembly of the crankshaft bearing. The set includes the matching high-quality ethanol-resistant BGM Pro FKM shaft seals.
