Description
High quality replacement piston from GOL ‘made in italy’ with chrome plated piston rings. The chrome plating reduces wear in the cylinder and increases the service life. Chromed piston rings can be used in the standard cylinder without any problems.

The piston is available in standard as well as in oversize. The indicated piston diameter (e.g. 60.0mm), which is also stamped on the piston, stands for the necessary bore of the cylinder. The piston itself has an undersize corresponding to this bore (in our example then e.g. 59.93mm). This ensures that the correct piston running clearance is always available.
If a worn cylinder is to be repaired, it is bored to the next oversize. The engine remanufacturer/cylinder grinder will then usually be satisfied with the dimension of the piston (e.g. 60.6mm). Some engine rebuilders also ask for the piston clearance. However, this should only be deviated from if sufficient experience is available. A running clearance that is too large than recommended by the manufacturer for false reasons of caution leads to strong running noises (explicitly at idle and in the lower speed range), loss of power and faster wear. As a rule of thumb, 1/100mm piston clearance per 10mm bore size. As a safety measure, 1-2/100mm are added to this. This gives a piston clearance of 7-8/100mm for a bore of Ø60mm.
TIP: Always mount piston rings carefully. Piston rings made of cast material are only conditionally elastic and break relatively fast.
Some pistons have trapezoidally profiled piston rings (so-called keystoner rings), these only fit in one installation position. If the ring does not move freely, please loosen it carefully and reinstall it turned ‘upside down’.
