Description
The speedometers, also called mussel speedometers because of their outer shape, were installed in many old Vespa from the 1960’s onwards. They are available in different versions, i.e. with different scaling for the speed (100km/h – 110km/h – 120km/h) as well as different designs of the dials (red – blue – black as well as with or without Piaggio logo).
Basically the speedometers can be exchanged among each other, i.e. a 120km/h speedometer can also be used in a handlebar which was originally intended only for a 100km/h model. There are differences, however, in the mounting technology. Round handlebar models have a different holder than the trapezoidal handlebars. The holders can usually be changed.
NOTE:The thread of the union nut for the upper mounting has a thread M10x1,00mm.
Unfortunately none of the usual (Italian) Vespa speedometer shafts fit on this speedometer.
TIP:Piaggio does not manufacture speedometers anymore but buys them in India. The quality of an expensive, supposedly original Piaggio speedometer is therefore identical with a much cheaper reprotacho. Only the Piaggio logo is missing on the reproductions…
